Terrorist attack likely at Kabul airport in next 24 to 36 hours : Biden

America requests all its citizens present in the Kabul airport area to leave the area immediately

US President Joe Biden has warned that there is a “high risk” of another terrorist attack at Kabul airport in the next 24 to 36 hours. Along with this, the US has requested all its citizens present in Afghanistan’s Kabul airport area to leave the area immediately. The US made this request to its citizens after receiving intelligence about the threat in the area. The United States has accelerated the evacuation of some remaining Americans and Afghan civilians in view of the August 31 deadline to withdraw its troops from Afghanistan. “The ground situation remains extremely dangerous and the airport is at high risk of terrorist attacks,” Biden said on Saturday. Our commanders informed me that there is a strong possibility of an attack in the next 24-36 hours. Biden instructed them to take all possible steps, prioritizing the safety of the soldiers. He assured that he had all the authority, resources, and plans to protect American men and women. He also resolved to continue retaliatory action against the terrorists responsible for Thursday’s attack on the airport. On Thursday, 169 Afghan civilians and 13 US soldiers were killed in a suicide bombing at the airport. Islamic State-Khorasan Province, an organization affiliated with the Islamic State in Afghanistan, has claimed responsibility for the attack.

“We will not give up on the group responsible for the attack on our soldiers and innocent civilians in Kabul,” the US president said. This attack was not the last. We will kill those involved in this heinous attack and they will have to pay the price. Whenever anyone tries to harm America or attack our troops, we will respond. As operations in the war-torn country neared an end, Biden said US troops would “continue to evacuate civilians despite the unstable situation in Kabul”.

In response to the attack, the US launched a drone strike in eastern Afghanistan on Friday. The Pentagon said two “high-profile ISIS terrorists” were killed and another wounded in the drone strike.
