Iconic Week by Ministry of Information of I&B comes to a close

‘Iconic Week’- the week-long celebration of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav by Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has come to a close yesterday. The celebrations which began on 23rd August saw an enthusiastic participation by all Media Units of the Ministry.

The most notable feature of the week was the inauguration of e-Photo exhibition “Making of the Constitution” and virtual poster exhibition “Chitranjali@75” by Union Minister Shri Anurag Singh Thakur along with Union Ministers Shri G. Kishan Reddy, Shri Arjun Ram Meghwal, Dr. L. Murugan and Smt Meenakshi Lekhi.

During the week Doordarshan network showcased a series of documentaries such as “Netaji”, “Merger of princely states”, etc. Popular Indian films such as “Razi” were also telecast. NFDC organised a film festival on its OTT platform www.cinemasofindia.com screening a specially curated bouquet of films such as “Island City ”, “Crossing Bridges” etc.

Regional News Units of DD and AIR aired special stories on freedom fighters, places and events of historic importance as part of their daily bulletins and as special programmes. Several Community Radio Stations too pitched in and aired special programmes. Various aspects were highlighted in these programmes including the exceptional contribution, valour, dedication, sacrifices of freedom fighters  and  unsung heroes of the freedom struggle.

The Regional Outreach Bureaus of Bureau of Outreach and Communication held nukkad nataks skits, magic shows, puppetry, folk recitals through various Integrated Communication and Outreach Programmes and more than 1000 PRTs by Song and Drama Division across the country. Freedom walks were organised in partnership with Nehru Yuva Kendra and NSS Units in States. The Minister of State for I&B Dr. L. Murugan inaugurated an exhibition on freedom fighters organised by ROB in Bengaluru. In a similar event in Bikaner, Union Minister of State Shri Arjun Ram Meghwal inaugurated an exhibition organised by ROB Rajasthan.

The regional units of Press Information Bureau held webinars on various topics across the country. These topics were selected to highlight contribution of heroes from the States during the freedom struggle. Young audience was engaged during the Iconic Week through various quizzes and interactive activities and competitions.

The Iconic Week was centered on the idea of Jan-bhagidari, ie participation of people. The objective of this was to make Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav a peoples’ movement instead of it being a Government led programme.

Uttarakhand / Dehradun: A heart wrenching incident has come to light from Vikasnagar in Dehradun, the capital of Uttarakhand. Where a young man killed his own mother and fled from the spot. Actually this incident is of 3rd August. Where Herbertpur police got information about a fire in a house in Rambagh area. When the police reached the spot, they found the burnt body of an old woman inside. The owner of the house, Sanjay Singh Rana, identified the body as his wife Suresho Devi alias Vandana Rana. Earlier it seemed that the woman died due to burning in the fire but the investigation revealed the case of murder. In such a situation, today the police has arrested him. Murdered mother when he did not get money for drugs The next day of the incident, the husband of the deceased, Sanjay Singh, while giving a complaint to the police, told that his son Manmohan Singh used to live with his mother. He was addicted to drugs and often used to demand money from his mother. There used to be a lot of quarrel between the two when the mother refused. The father told that Manmohan was missing from home since the incident. After which, he expressed doubt that maybe his son had committed the murder and set the room on fire. The police already suspected the son The police immediately registered a case against the son and started investigation. After which, on the night of 14 August, the police arrested Manmohan Singh from Kulhal area. During interrogation, Manmohan Singh confessed his crime. He told that he has been addicted to drugs for a long time. He has already gone to jail in drug smuggling and Arms Act cases. On the day of the incident, he had asked his mother for money for drugs. But his mother refused to give him money and also did not let him go out of the house. He fled with the money after the murder After which, Manmohan Singh, in anger, attacked his mother’s neck with a wooden stick kept in the house. Due to which she died on the spot. After the murder, Manmohan Singh wrapped the body in a mattress and set it on fire so that it appeared that the woman died due to burning. Manmohan fled on a motorcycle with 30 thousand rupees kept in the cupboard of the house and his clothes.
