Miracle of Tyagi, Rajasthan beat Punjab by two runs
Young fast bowler Karthik Tyagi’s miraculous bowling in the last over helped Rajasthan Royals beat Punjab Kings by two runs in a high-scoring match of IPL 14 at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium.
Chasing a massive target of 186 runs in 20 overs given by Rajasthan Royals, Punjab Kings openers Lokesh Rahul (49) and Mayank Agarwal (67) played stormy innings, which led to the entire match, even till the 19th over. The match went in favor of Punjab Kings, but Tyagi’s miraculous bowling in the 20th and last over of the match snatched the winning match from Punjab Kings and put it in Rajasthan’s lap. In the last over, Punjab needed only four runs to win. Tyagi conceded a run in the first two balls and dismissed set batsman Nicholas Pooran in the third. After this Punjab needed three runs in three balls. Deepak Hooda missed the fourth ball and was out on the fifth. Punjab were to score three runs off the last ball, but new batsman Fabian Allen was beaten and Rajasthan won the match. Karthik Tyagi was adjudged ‘Player of the Match’ for his brilliant bowling.
With this win, Rajasthan have scored a significant two points and have moved up from sixth to fifth position in the points table. Its claim to be in the top four has also strengthened, while the situation has become even more difficult for Punjab. There has been no change in his place in the points table but he will have to win the next five matches to go into the knockout stage of the tournament which will be a tough task for him. His next five matches will be with Sunrisers Hyderabad, Mumbai Indians, Kolkata Knight Riders, Royal Challengers Bangalore and Chennai Super Kings respectively.
Rahul and Mayank scored 49 off 33 balls with four fours and two sixes and 67 off 43 balls with the help of seven fours and two sixes respectively. Aidan Markram scored 26 off 20 balls and Nicholas Pooran scored 32 off 22 balls. Apart from Tyagi, Chetan Sakaria and Rahul Teotia took one wicket each for Rajasthan. In batting, Yashasvi Jaiswal scored the highest 49 and Mahipal Lomod scored 43 runs. Arshdeep of Punjab Kings had the best performance of his IPL career taking five wickets in four overs. Mohammed Shami also took three wickets.
