Stop treating young doctors like ‘football in power game’: Supreme Court reprimands Center
The Supreme Court has reprimanded the Central Government on a petition challenging the last minute changes in the syllabus of NEET PG Super Specialty Examination 2021. The court asked the Center to stop treating young doctors like “football in the game of power”. The Supreme Court has asked the government to convene a meeting of the officials concerned and reply on the next Monday.
The court said, ‘Don’t think of these young doctors as football in the game of power. We cannot leave these doctors at the mercy of insensitive bureaucrats. The government should fix its house. Just because someone has power, you cannot use it in any way. This is very important for his career. Now you cannot bring change at the last minute.
Justice BV Nagarathna said, “These young doctors can be misled because of last-minute changes.”
Justice DY Chandrachud said, ‘Take sensitivity with young doctors. What is NMC (National Medical Commission) doing? We are dealing with the lives of doctors. You issue a notice and then change the pattern? Students start preparing for super specialty courses months in advance. Why is there a need to change the last minutes before the exam? Why can’t you go ahead with the changes from next year?’
In fact, 41 PG qualified doctors have challenged the sudden last minute change in the syllabus of the examination. Students argue that the pattern has been changed just 2 months before the exam.
On September 20, the SC issued notices to the National Board of Examinations (NBE), National Medical Commission (NMC) and the Central Government on a petition challenging the last minute changes in the syllabus of the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) PG Super Specialty Examination-2021 was issued.
The pattern in 2018 was 40 percent from General Medicine and 60 percent from Super Specialty whereas this time a last minute change was announced in which 100 percent questions were asked from General Medicine.
