Duminy to be strategic advisor for South Africa in T20 World Cup
JP Duminy has been appointed as the strategic advisor to the South African team for the upcoming T20 World Cup. When Duminy announced his retirement from ODIs in March 2019, he had said that he would be available for the shortest format. However, during the same tournament he changed his mind and opted not to play altogether. Now he has got a place in the coaching staff of the team for the T20 World Cup.
He also dabbled in commentary before taking on a role as South Africa’s support staff, and it didn’t take long for him to return to the cricket field as the team’s technical advisor.
“I was packing my bags on Sunday and realized I needed to go to the garage and take off my South African blazer and tie,” Duminy said. I did not think that after two years I would go to the cupboard where I have kept my belongings after retirement. It was an emotional moment. I missed my player life and now I am coming back to the team in a different form.
It is a short-term role, to which he said, it is not a matter of mastering any particular department or skill. I will try to share the experience that I have in the last 15 years and contribute wherever I can.
