‘Then nobody takes responsibility’, said Supreme Court on the violence in Lakhimpur Kheri
The Supreme Court on Monday, while hearing the application of an organization named ‘Kisan Mahapanchayat’, said that when incidents like Lakhimpur Kheri happen, then no one takes responsibility. The Kisan Mahapanchayat had demanded from the apex court that they should be allowed to hold satyagraha at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar. The Supreme Court made this observation while hearing this application. Along with this, the court said that it will examine whether the right to protest is a fundamental right or not. Along with this, the bench of the court raised the question on the movement of the farmers that when there is a ban on the implementation of the laws, then what is the protest.
Along with this, how can the petitioners protest while the matter is pending before the court. Attorney General KK Venugopal, appearing for the central government, said that no such movement should be allowed in future. If we have to avoid incidents like Lakhimpur Kheri. The court has fixed October 21 for the next hearing of the case. Meanwhile, the UP government has suspended internet services in Lakhimpur Kheri. On Sunday, four farmers were killed after a car rammed into a convoy of BJP leaders. After this, there are reports of the death of 4 BJP workers in the farmers’ violence.
