Delhi High Court reprimands Twitter, asks to remove objectionable post related to Hindu goddess

The Delhi High Court on Friday asked Twitter to remove some objectionable content related to the Hindu goddess. The court said the social media giant will respect the sentiments of the general public as it is doing business related to them.

On Friday, the Delhi High Court said that Twitter is doing a good job and people are happy with it. A bench of Chief Justice DN Patel and Justice Jyoti Singh asked the counsel for Twitter, whether the content is being removed or not? You should respect the sentiments of the common people, because you are doing business related to the public at large. Their feelings should be given due importance. You should remove it.

The bench said, you remove it. You have done the same in the case of Rahul Gandhi. Senior advocate Siddharth Luthra, appearing for Twitter, said the court may mention in the order and they will abide by the direction. The next hearing of the case will be on November 30. Petitioner Aditya Singh Deshwal said that he came to know about some highly objectionable material being shared by a user about Goddess Maa Kali, which depicts the Goddess in a derogatory manner.

Senior advocate Sanjay Poddar, appearing for the petitioner, said that he informed the grievance officer of Twitter and sought action under the relevant rules. He claimed that Twitter denies this, saying the content on the account in question does not belong to the category to be acted upon and therefore cannot be removed. In the petition, it has been requested to direct Twitter to remove this objectionable content from its platform and to permanently close the relevant account.
