INDEX OF EIGHT CORE INDUSTRIES (BASE: 2011-12=100) FOR SEPTEMBER, 2021

The Office of Economic Adviser, Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade is releasing Index of Eight Core Industries (ICI) for the Month of September, 2021.ICI measures combined and individual performance of production in selected eight core industries viz. Coal, Crude Oil, Natural Gas, Refinery Products, Fertilizers, Steel, Cement and Electricity.The Eight Core Industries comprise 40.27 percent of the weight of items included in the Index of Industrial Production (IIP). Details of yearly and monthly indices and growth rates are provided at Annex I & II respectively.

The combined Index of Eight Core Industries stood at 126.7 in September 2021, which increased by4.4 per cent (provisional) as compared to the Index ofSeptember 2020. The production of Coal, Natural Gas, Refinery Products, Fertilizers,Steel, Cement and Electricity industries increased in September 2021 over the corresponding periodof last year.

Final growth rate of Index of Eight Core Industries for June 2021 is revised to 9.4%from its provisional level 8.9%. The growth rate of ICI during April-September2021-22 was 16.6% (P) as compared to the corresponding period of last FY.

The summary of the Index of Eight Core Industries is given below:

Coal –Coal production (weight: 10.33 per cent) increased by 8.1 per centin September,2021 overSeptember, 2020. Its cumulative index increased by 11.7 per centduring April to September,2021-22 over corresponding period of the previous year.

Crude Oil–Crude Oil production (weight: 8.98 per cent) declined by 1.7 per centinSeptember, 2021 overSeptember, 2020. Its cumulative index declined by 2.9 per centduring April to September, 2021-22over the corresponding period of previous year.

Natural Gas – Natural Gas production (weight: 6.88 per cent) increased by 27.5 per cent in September, 2021over September, 2020. Its cumulative index increased by 22.1 per cent during April to September, 2021-22 over the corresponding period of previous year.

Petroleum Refinery Products–Petroleum Refinery production (weight: 28.04 per cent) increased by 6.0 per centin September, 2021 over September, 2020. Its cumulative index increased by 11.2 per cent during April to September, 2021-22over the corresponding period of previous year.

Fertilizers – Fertilizers production (weight: 2.63 per cent) increased by0.02 per centin September, 2021 over September, 2020. Its cumulative index decreased by 1.3 per centduring April to September, 2021-22 over the corresponding period of previous year.

Steel –Steel production (weight: 17.92 per cent)increased by 3.0 per cent in September, 2021 over September, 2020. Its cumulative index increased by 35.0 per centduring April to September, 2021-22 over the corresponding period of previous year.

Cement –Cement production (weight: 5.37 per cent) increased by 10.8 per centin September, 2021 over September, 2020. Its cumulative index increased by 37.7 per centduring April to September, 2021-22 over the corresponding period of previous year.

Electricity –Electricity generation (weight: 19.85 per cent) increased by 0.3per centin September, 2021 over September,2020. Its cumulative index increased by 12.7 per centduring April to September, 2021-22 over the corresponding period of previous year.

Note 1: Data for July, 2021, August, 2021 and September, 2021 are provisional.

Note 2: Since April, 2014, Electricity generation data from Renewable sources are also included.

Note 3: The industry-wise weights indicated above are individual industry weight derived from IIP and blown up on pro rata basis to a combined weight of ICI equal to 100.

Note 4: Since March 2019, a new steel product called Hot Rolled Pickled and Oiled (HRPO) under the item ‘Cold Rolled (CR) coils’ within the production of finished steel has also been included.

Note 5: Release of the index for October,2021 will be on Tuesday30th November, 2021.

Uttarakhand / Dehradun: A heart wrenching incident has come to light from Vikasnagar in Dehradun, the capital of Uttarakhand. Where a young man killed his own mother and fled from the spot. Actually this incident is of 3rd August. Where Herbertpur police got information about a fire in a house in Rambagh area. When the police reached the spot, they found the burnt body of an old woman inside. The owner of the house, Sanjay Singh Rana, identified the body as his wife Suresho Devi alias Vandana Rana. Earlier it seemed that the woman died due to burning in the fire but the investigation revealed the case of murder. In such a situation, today the police has arrested him. Murdered mother when he did not get money for drugs The next day of the incident, the husband of the deceased, Sanjay Singh, while giving a complaint to the police, told that his son Manmohan Singh used to live with his mother. He was addicted to drugs and often used to demand money from his mother. There used to be a lot of quarrel between the two when the mother refused. The father told that Manmohan was missing from home since the incident. After which, he expressed doubt that maybe his son had committed the murder and set the room on fire. The police already suspected the son The police immediately registered a case against the son and started investigation. After which, on the night of 14 August, the police arrested Manmohan Singh from Kulhal area. During interrogation, Manmohan Singh confessed his crime. He told that he has been addicted to drugs for a long time. He has already gone to jail in drug smuggling and Arms Act cases. On the day of the incident, he had asked his mother for money for drugs. But his mother refused to give him money and also did not let him go out of the house. He fled with the money after the murder After which, Manmohan Singh, in anger, attacked his mother’s neck with a wooden stick kept in the house. Due to which she died on the spot. After the murder, Manmohan Singh wrapped the body in a mattress and set it on fire so that it appeared that the woman died due to burning. Manmohan fled on a motorcycle with 30 thousand rupees kept in the cupboard of the house and his clothes.
