Delhi High Court rejects PIL seeking removal of people ‘sitting under the guise of farmers’ agitation’

The Delhi High Court on Friday dismissed a petition seeking removal of people “sitting under the guise of farmers’ agitation” in the national capital and a direction to vacate all roads and public places. A bench of Justice DN Patel and Justice Jyoti Singh dismissed it on Friday as no lawyer appeared on behalf of the petitioner. The court said that no one had appeared in this case even on the previous dates.

However, advocate Amit Mahajan appeared on behalf of the central government in this matter. This petition was filed by a resident of Delhi Ghananjay Jain through advocate Bhup Singh. The plea had also sought a direction to the Center to deploy adequate paramilitary forces to ensure the security of important monuments and the life and property of the citizens of Delhi and to restore a sense of trust and security among them.

The petitioner said that he lives in Delhi and being a socially conscious person, he was shocked by the incidents and violence that took place in different parts of Delhi on 26 January.

The petition said, “Serious and chaotic situation prevailed in the national capital on Republic Day on January 26, when the celebrations were going on. The farmers’ agitation which has been going on for the last several days took a very violent and violent form and Peasants reached inside Delhi with weapons, hockey sticks, swords and other weapons and disturbed the peace and law and order situation in Delhi city besides disrupting Republic Day celebrations.
