Delhi : 16 TMC MPs stand to meet Amit Shah, sit on Protest outside MHA over Tripura incident
A delegation of Trinamool Congress MPs has reached Delhi against alleged police brutality in Tripura and is adamant on their demand to meet Union Home Minister Amit Shah. A delegation of Trinamool Congress (TMC) MPs staged a sit-in outside the Union Home Ministry in Delhi on Monday over alleged police brutality in Tripura and are still standing. 16 TMC MPs are involved in this dharna. The protesting MPs are seeking an appointment with Union Home Minister Amit Shah against the arrest of Trinamool Youth Congress President Sayoni Ghosh and the attack on party leaders in Tripura.
Ahead of Mamata Banerjee’s Delhi tour, a total of 16 MPs, including TMC MPs Derek O’Brien, Sukhendu Shekhar Roy, Shantanu Sen and Mala Roy, have reached the capital Delhi today and are constantly seeking time to meet Amit Shah. Sayoni Ghosh was arrested by the Tripura Police on Sunday for allegedly creating a ruckus during a public meeting in the presence of Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Dev.
Soon after Ghosh’s arrest, some TMC workers alleged that BJP workers attacked the women’s police station in East Agartala where Ghosh was being questioned. However, the BJP has denied these allegations and said that TMC is trying to disturb peace in Tripura.
Here, the Supreme Court on Monday agreed to hear on November 23 the plea of the Trinamool Congress (TMC) party that the Tripura government and the Tripura government for failing to prevent violent incidents against opposition parties ahead of the upcoming local body elections. Contempt action has been requested against others. A bench of Justices DY Chandrachud and AS Bopanna said the petition would be heard on Tuesday.
Earlier, advocate Amar Dave, appearing for TMC, submitted that the situation in the state was deteriorating despite the court’s November 11 order. He said, ‘Yesterday there was an incident. The situation in the state is very unstable and it has gone from bad to worse. The situation is worsening day by day. He also said that repeated incidents of violence are happening and false cases are being registered against their members, hence the petition for contempt action has been filed.
When asked by the bench whether the petition has been filed, Dave said it is in the process of being filed and once it is listed, he will provide it to the court. It said, ‘Okay, we’ll hear it on Tuesday. Once the petition is listed, you give its details to the court master.
The apex court had on November 11 directed the Tripura government to ensure that no political party, including the TMC, was prevented from exercising its electoral rights in accordance with law and from conducting peaceful and orderly campaign for the local body elections in the state. Will go The top court had also directed the state government to make appropriate arrangements to ensure law and order for the unhindered right of political participation in municipal elections.
