Home Minister Amit Shah will make a statement in Parliament today on the situation of confrontation between the army and police in Nagaland

Union Home Minister Amit Shah will make a statement on the situation in Nagaland in both the houses of Parliament on Monday. Today at 3 o’clock he will give information on this issue in the Lok Sabha and at 4 pm in the Rajya Sabha. Significantly, in Nagaland, there has been a situation of confrontation between the state police and the army personnel. In fact, in an operation by Para Forces on Saturday evening, 13 villagers were shot dead due to mistaken identity. After this the villagers stormed the Assam Rifle camp. An army jawan was injured in this clash, who died on Sunday.

The Nagaland Police has registered a suo motu FIR against 21 Para Special Forces of the Indian Army in connection with the firing on civilians in MON district on Saturday evening, in which 13 people were killed. In the FIR, the Nagaland Police has clearly stated that the Para Special Forces did not inform the local police, nor did they take any police guide. The military says it was a ‘misidentification’. In the FIR, the police have stated ‘the intention of the security forces to kill and injure civilians’.

Let us inform that the MON district of Nagaland, bordering Myanmar, is under the AFSPA ACT, so unless the central government gives permission, the army cannot be prosecuted but this is a rare case, in which the police opened fire on civilians. Suicide charges have been filed against Army Special Forces on charges of suicide. The situation in MON district remains tense but the situation is under control.
