Australian spinner Nathan Lyon said – Proud to have achieved 400 wickets

Australian spinner Nathan Lyon said that he can still feel the feeling of being included in the list of great players by completing 400 Test wickets during The Ashes 2021-22) win against England at the Gabba on Saturday. Have not been able to fully feel it.

The 34-year-old off-spinner played a key role in Australia’s 9-wicket win by dismissing set batsman David Malan for 82 on the fourth day of the first Test against England as England were all out for 297.

After the match, he said, “To be honest, I still don’t believe it completely. Of course, I will get messages of good luck from family and friends and then maybe I will realize this. But I am very proud of it, it was a very difficult pitch but the result was very good, that’s for sure.”

Before the Test, Lyon had said that he wanted England captain Joe Root to make his 400th Test wicket. However, he had to be content with the wicket of David Malan.

Lyon, in his 101st Test and after a decade in the team, became the 16th player in world cricket to achieve the feat, as well as the third Australian after former legends Shane Warne and Glenn McGrath.

Sri Lanka legend Muttiah Muralitharan tops the all-time Test wicket-takers with 800, followed by Warne at second place with 708 wickets. England star Jimmy Anderson is third with 632 wickets, while fellow pacer Stuart Broad is sixth on the list with 524 wickets. Lyon completed 403 wickets in the second innings taking 4-91.

Australian captain Pat Cummins stressed how important Lyon is to the team. “He is our most important bowler, not only to take wickets, but you see how many overs he bowled yesterday, he bowled 20 overs in two and a half hours on a difficult day,” he said.
