Sher Bahadur Deuba won the election of Nepali Congress President for the second time

Nepal’s Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba has won the election of Nepali Congress President. Deuba got 2,733 votes out of 4,623. The electoral body is yet to officially announce the results, but PM Deuba has been elected for a second term as party president.

Deuba defeated Dr. Shekhar Koirala, while the rest of the candidates conceded defeat in the second phase of the election. Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba, Dr Shekhar Koirala, Prakash Man Singh, Bimlendra Nidhi and Kalyan Gurung were the candidates in the elections held on Monday under the 14th General Conference.

No one got more than 50% of the votes in the first round

Deuba got 2258 votes in the first round. Similarly Dr. Koirala got 1702 votes, Nidhi got 249 votes, Singh got 371 votes and Gurung got 22 votes. No one got more than 50% of the vote in the first round of voting. After this, the second round of voting started at 3.30 pm. Voting is on for the second round as none of the candidates got 50 per cent of the votes.

Deuba is considered a supporter of India

Deuba, who has been Prime Minister for 4 times in Nepal, is considered pro-India. After becoming the Prime Minister in 2017, he came to Delhi and met PM Narendra Modi. From economic relations with India, Deuba has been showing a soft attitude in the matter of Madhesis.

Political crisis in Nepal since December last year

There has been a political crisis in Nepal since December last year. The government could not run due to discord in the Communist Party of Nepal. On the advice of Prime Minister Oli, the President dissolved Parliament on 20 December and announced elections on 30 April and 10 May, but in February the Supreme Court restored Parliament. In July this year, Sher Bahadur Deuba became the Prime Minister of Nepal for the 5th time.
