The capital shivered due to cold wave for the second consecutive day, mercury fell by four degrees Celsius above normal
The entire North-West India is in the grip of cold wave due to the cold air coming from the mountains. For the second consecutive day in the capital Delhi, the minimum temperature on Tuesday dropped to 4 degrees Celsius, four below normal. Cold wave continues in Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Bihar, West Bengal, Kutch to Telangana. Meteorologists say that due to the decrease in wind speed on Wednesday, there will be some relief from the cold.
Cold winds blow from Jammu and Kashmir to Telangana, relief expected from today
According to Rajendra Jenamani, Senior Scientist of the Meteorological Department, there will be an increase in the minimum temperature from Wednesday due to two western movements and a decrease in the cold wind coming from the northern direction. This is expected to bring relief from the cold wave. Earlier, on Monday, the minimum temperature had dipped to 3.2 degrees Celsius, five below normal, making it the coldest day of the season.
Relief in Kashmir Valley on the first day of Chille Kalan
The 40-day-long chilly winter has started in Kashmir on Tuesday, but the weather was kind on the very first day. The minimum temperature in Srinagar was minus 2.8 degrees Celsius as against minus 5.8 degrees Celsius last night. There is a possibility of light snowfall in the upper reaches of the valley on 23rd December. From December 26, there is a possibility of heavy snowfall in the hilly areas including the plains.

The maximum temperature in Delhi on Tuesday was 22.4 degrees Celsius above normal and people got some respite from the cold as the day was sunny. As soon as the sun set, people shivered again. The humidity level in the air has been recorded at 30 to 94 percent in the last 24 hours.
