Uttarakhand : Roads closed after rain and snow, stranded passengers

After the rain and snowfall in many districts of Uttarakhand, the problems of the people have also increased. Passengers are stuck at places due to the closure of the road after the rain. Tourists are also upset due to the rain and snowfall in Uttarkashi since last Saturday morning. Gangotri Highway from Gangnani, Sukki Top to Gangotri is closed due to snowfall. While Yamunotri Highway has been closed due to snowfall in Hanuman Chatti and Radi Top. Due to the snowfall, the footpaths in the surrounding villages have also been closed.
Due to this people are facing a lot of trouble. The process of rain and snowfall is continuing in the district since Saturday morning. Due to the continuous rain and snowfall, the villages situated at an altitude of up to one thousand feet have been covered with snow. At the same time, due to snowfall, Gangotri Highway from Gangnani Sukki Top, Harshil, Dharali and Bhairav Ghati to Gangotri is completely closed. Due to which the movement of vehicles has come to a complete halt. Along with this, Harsil-Mukhba, Payara-Jhala, Jaspur-Purali and Kamad-Ayarkhal, Uttarkashi Lambgaon motorway, Chowringhee Khal, Yamunotri highway including Sankurnadhar, Hanuman Chatti, Radi Top have been closed.
While dozens of other rural roads including Mori Sankri Jakhol motorway have also been closed due to snowfall. Due to this the life of the people has been completely affected. District Disaster Management Officer Devendra Patwal said that the workers of BRO and NH are busy in smoothening the road to smooth the Gangotri, Yamunotri highway.
Heavy snowfall in Harsil, Sankri including Gangotri, Yamunotri Dham
Harkidoon Valley including Gangotri and Yamunotri Dham in Uttarkashi district received snow once again on Saturday. Harshil, Dayara Bugyal, Dodital and Janki Chatti of Yamuna valley, Harkidoon, including both the dhams, have frozen about two feet of snow in the valley. The weather changed in the district since late Friday night and there were dark clouds in the sky. It started raining on Saturday morning. Wherein Gangotri Yamunotri Dham including Harshil, Mukhba, Dharali, Sukki, Dayra Bugyal, Dodital, Nachiketa Tal, Chowringhee Khal, Radi Top.
Harkidoon, Sankri, Ajkhol, Osla, Gangad, Dhatmeter, Liwari Fitadi of Mori block including Janki Chatti, Hanuman Chatti, Sangag Chatti of Yamuna Valley as well as Changsheel Bugyal and Chinwa, Badalda etc. of Arakot area adjoining Himachal border. The villages at higher altitude are completely covered with snow. Due to snowfall, it is getting cold in the district. To avoid this, people have started resorting to bonfires and heaters.
Snowfall in Nainital, Mukteshwar The cold increased in Nainital, after the rain since last night in Nainital district, Mukteshwar has got the first innings of the season. The same snow fell in the high peaks of Nainital, but the city of Nainital is still waiting for snowfall. Snow started falling in Mukteshwar from around 8:30 am on Sunday. Which continued for about half an hour. But due to the turn, a tremendous drop in temperature was recorded. The minimum temperature in Mukteshwar in the morning was recorded at 0.5 degree Celsius.
About 20 mm of rain has been recorded in the district in the last 24 hours. Where the local cultivators have got relief from the continuous rains. At the same time, due to Corona, the tourism business is not expected to get much benefit of snowfall. The state government has imposed many restrictions in view of the increasing cases of corona. Due to incessant rains in Nainital, the cold increased a lot. But there is no snowfall in Nainital yet.
Rain and snowfall alert in Uttarakhand for next two days
The Meteorological Department has forecast light to moderate rain, snowfall in many places of Garhwal division of the state and very light to light rain in some places of districts of Kumaon division for Sunday. On Sunday, there is a possibility of snowfall in places with an altitude of 2500 meters and above. According to the forecast of the Meteorological Department, due to moderate to heavy snowfall in the hilly districts on the 9th, the traffic on the roads may be disrupted at some places. There may be minor damage to power and telecommunication lines.
The Meteorological Department has suggested the concerned departments of the state government to make necessary arrangements to keep the roads open from snow at places above 2500 meters. People are advised to be careful while driving. On January 10 also, there may be light rain and snowfall in the hilly districts of the state. There is a possibility of snowfall in places above 3000 meters. According to the Director of Meteorological Department, Bikram Singh, the weather will be clear in the state from January 11, but the weather will remain cold.
