300 more buses will come by April: CM Arvind Kejriwal
During this, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said that today Delhi’s first electric bus has hit the road. Today is very important in many ways. Firstly, a new era has started in the field of transport in Delhi. The first electric bus has hit the road today. I understand that in the coming years, as the old buses are removed, the electric buses will come on the roads of Delhi. This is a very important step towards controlling pollution. There is no sound during the running of this bus and there is no smoke coming out of this bus. Today the first bus has hit the road and we expect 300 buses to arrive by April. After this, our target is to bring two thousand more electric buses within the next few years.
Today this is the first bus in the fleet of DTC after 2011: CM Kejriwal
Kejriwal further said that another big thing has happened in Delhi that since 2011 till date, not a single new bus had come in the fleet of DTC. There was some eclipse. Whenever the effort was being made, various obstacles were encountered in it. I understand that after 2011, today the first bus of DTC has arrived in the fleet. This bus is not included in the fleet of the cluster. The battery of this bus gets fully charged in one to one and a half hours and once the battery is charged, this bus runs for at least 120 kilometers. Charging arrangements are being made in all our depots.
Key features of Delhi’s first electric bus
This state-of-the-art bus is 100% electric with zero tailpipe emissions. These are included in the 300 electric buses, which will be included in the coming days under DTC. These 300 buses will run from Mundela Kalan (100 buses), Rajghat (50) and Rohini Sector-37 (150 buses) depots. These buses have knee ramps for disabled passengers and special pink seats for women passengers. These buses are equipped with CCTV cameras, which are connected to a two-way Central Command and Control Center (CCC) at Kashmere Gate. Each bus has 10 panic buttons and a hooter. This first prototype bus will run on a 27 km long route from the IP depot. This bus will run for at least 120 km on a single charge and will be fully charged in about 1.5 hours.
