Bharat Biotech said on Tuesday that it is receiving several reports that children in the age group of 15-18 years are being vaccinated against COVID-19 vaccine other than Covaxin. Bharat Biotech urged healthcare workers to be vigilant and ensure that only Covaxin vaccine is given to that particular age group.

Bharat Biotech said in a Twitter post that Bharat Biotech’s Covaxin is the only approved COVID-19 jab, administered to children in the age group of 15 to 18 years. “We have received several additional reports of unapproved COVID-19 vaccines being administered to the age group of 15-18 years,” the company said.

In a statement, the company mentioned that all post-vaccination adverse events are reported to the health ministry and AEFI (post-immune adverse event) centres. Bharat Biotech also has extensive pharmacovigilance programs to acquire and test AEFIs.

Covaxin received approval based on a thorough clinical trial evaluation for safety and immunogenicity in the 2-18 year age group. Currently, it is the only COVID-19 vaccine approved for children in India. The vaccination of children in the age group of 15 to 18 years has started from January 3 in the country.
