First punishment in Delhi riots, 5 years in jail for robbery and arson

North East Delhi riots case (Delhi Riots)” was the first sentence on Thursday. Delhi’s Karkardooma court sentenced a person named Dinesh Yadav to 5 years imprisonment. Prosecution lawyer RCS Bhadauria confirmed this. In the case of robbery and arson in the house of a woman, five years imprisonment has been given.

In Bhagirathi Vihar of Gokulpuri, Delhi, the house of 70-year-old woman Manori, in which the court sentenced Dinesh Yadav, a resident of the same area, to five years of imprisonment, for looting and setting fire to it. This is the first case when someone has been sentenced in the horrific riots in North East Delhi.

On 25 December 2020, the house of a woman named Manori was set on fire after a robbery. The rioters had even stolen their cattle. 70-year-old Manori jumped from the roof and saved her life by hiding in the house of a Hindu family. After that the police somehow saved his family and took them away. The whole family was out of Delhi for 2 weeks.

In this case, the court has considered the statement of 2 policemen to be important. They told that Dinesh was part of the mob that was indulging in violence. However, he did not see Dinesh burning down Manori’s house. However, the court said that if  If someone is part of an illegal mob, then he is equally responsible for the violence like the rest of the rioters.

Judgment has been pronounced in another case related to riots.  However, the accused were acquitted therein.”
