Election Commission’s decision – Rally and road show will continue in 5 states including UP-Uttarakhand

The Election Commission of India held a meeting on Saturday regarding the assembly elections to be held in five states. In the meeting, a big decision was taken to continue the ban on election rallies, road shows, processions. In view of the increasing cases of corona infection and the status of corona vaccination, the commission decided to carry forward the ban in the election rally for the time being. Apart from the Chief Election Commissioner, all the commissioners and deputy commissioners also participated in this meeting of the commission. Apart from this, the Chief Election Commissioners of the five states also took a decision in the meeting of the Commission. Ban on rallies and meetings will not be lifted in five election states in the country. The commission has extended the ban on rallies and meetings till January 31. After the announcement of election dates in five states on January 8, the Election Commission had banned rallies and public meetings till January 15. It was said that after the review, the decision will be taken. After a review on January 15, the ban was extended till January 22.

In this meeting of the Election Commission, the Union Health Secretaries and Chief Health Secretaries of the five states participated virtually. In the meeting, the situation of Corona was reviewed after which it has been decided to increase the ban on election rally. Significantly, during the announcement of the election program of the five states on January 9, till January 15, there was a complete ban on rallies, street meetings, pad yatras, cycle rallies. After review on January 15, the commission kept this restriction in force, but giving some relief to political parties, it was allowed to hold meetings in a closed room with a maximum of 300 people or 50 percent of the capacity of the room. Sources say that in today’s meeting, the commission may give some relaxation in the restrictions.

If sources are to be believed, the campaigning for the first phase of elections will end 72 hours earlier as before and it is expected that this time, perhaps a week before this, the ban on election rally will be lifted. However, sources believe that even if the exemption is given, then there will be a ban in the promotion.

Let us tell you that the assembly elections to be held in five states will start from February 10 and will go on till March 7 and the counting of votes of all the states will be done on March 10.
