PV Sindhu wins Syed Modi India International title, men’s singles result will be declared without final match

PV Sindhu has started the year 2022 by winning the title of Syed Modi tournament. The Olympic medalist defeated 20-year-old young shuttler Malvika Bansod in the final held in Lucknow. Malvika had earlier made headlines by defeating star shuttler Saina Nehwal in the India Open. At the same time, the final match of the men’s section could not be held due to Corona.

Two-time Olympic medalist PV Sindhu defeated young compatriot Malvika Bansod in straight games to clinch the women’s singles title for the second time at the Syed Modi India International Badminton Tournament. In the mixed doubles, the pair of Ishaan Bhatnagar and Tanisha Crasto defeated compatriots T Hema Nagendra Babu and Srivedya Gurazada to win the gold medal.

Let us tell you that the Indian shuttler did not sweat much during the 21-13 21-16 victory against Malvika in the final. Sindhu won the final match in just 35 minutes. This is the second Syed Modi title of former world champion Sindhu. Earlier in 2017 also he won the title of this BWF World Tour Super 300 tournament.

Earlier, Indian pair of Ishan Bhatnagar and Tanisha Crasto defeated compatriots T Hema Nagendra Babu and Srivedya Gurazada in straight games to clinch the mixed doubles title. Ishan and Tanisha registered a 21-16 21-12 win against the unseeded Indian pair in just 29 minutes.

At the same time, the final match of the men’s singles category could not be held due to Corona. The men’s singles title match between Arnaud Merkle and Lukas Clairebout was declared a ‘no match’.

This decision was taken after the report of a finalist in this match was found to be Kovid-19 positive. BWF will soon announce the winner of men’s singles, world ranking points and prize money.
