Self was a big name in the politics of Uttarakhand. After the death of Indira Hridayesh, now her son Sumit Hridayesh will contest from Haldwani seat. Dr. Indira was MLA from here for three times in 2002, 2012 and 2017. Even after his death in June, the by-election was not held here. In such a situation, many people applied for the ticket in the general election. But Sumit was confident about his ticket from the beginning. Sumit, who handled the entire management of Indira’s election, is going to contest the election of MLA for the first time. However, he has shown his strength in the mayoral election held in 2018. He had then overtaken BJP candidate Dr. Jogendra Rautela in Haldwani assembly constituency.

Sumit Hridayesh had ventured into politics during the life of Dr. Indira Hridayesh. He was the Mandi President from 2012 to 2018. While being a PCC member and AICC member, he worked for the organization. Apart from this, he is present in every program related to Congress. However, like the common contender, he had to go through every process regarding the ticket claim. But in the end, Congress handed over the legacy of its big leader to Sumit Hridayesh. Supporters reached home to congratulate him after the ticket was finalized late in the night. At the same time, Sumit said that the party’s expectations will be fulfilled at any cost.

Strengthened by Indira Yatra: After the death of Dr. Indira, Sumit contacted people in all the wards of Haldwani Vidhan Sabha through Indira Vikas Sankalp Yatra. This went on for about three months. During this, he also sought cooperation from the people to fulfill the unfulfilled dreams of the mother. Due to the Corona period, there is a ban on large rallies and programs at present. In such a situation, Indira Vikas Sankalp Yatra will be beneficial for Sumit. Because, he has completed one round of campaigning across the region.
