Uttar Pradesh : State Election Commission’s big decision – From 10 February to 7 March, Exit Polls were banned

Uttar Pradesh State Election Commissioner has taken a big decision. The publication/broadcast of exit polls is prohibited between 7 am on 10 February and 6:30 pm on 7 March. The Samajwadi Party (SP) had demanded an immediate ban on the broadcast of opinion polls being shown on various news channels.
UP Chief Electoral Officer Ajay Kumar Shukla said that all exit polls related to the upcoming assembly elections have been banned from 7.00 am on February 10 to 6.30 pm on March 7. It will not be published in print or electronically.

A letter was written to the Election Commission in this regard. State President of Samajwadi Party Naresh Uttam Patel has written a letter to the Chief Election Commissioner demanding a ban on opinion polls being shown by various news channels with immediate effect.
Patel had said in the letter that since the announcement of the dates for the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly elections, many channels are showing opinion polls, which is confusing the voters and affecting the election. This act is a clear violation of the model code of conduct. Patel has demanded that the opinion polls being shown by news channels should be stopped with immediate effect to conduct free, fair and fearless elections.
