Ban on rallies in elections being held in five states extended till February 11

The Election Commission has extended the ban on rallies, meetings till February 11 during the elections being held in five states due to the COVID-19 epidemic. However, the commission has given some relaxation in the restrictions on election programs. There will be a ban on rallies, but now instead of 500, one thousand people will be able to attend the meeting. Whereas in door to door campaign, 20 people will be able to walk instead of 10. Apart from this, 500 people can attend instead of 300 in the closed meeting.

On January 8, the Election Commission announced the schedule of assembly elections in five states. The Election Commission had banned political rallies, road shows, processions along with announcing the polling dates. The Election Commission had earlier extended the ban on public meetings and rallies till January 15, then January 22 and then till January 31. This deadline was ending today, which has been extended till February 11.
