Girls took to the streets in support of Hijab in Delhi’s Shaheen Bagh

The Hijab controversy of Karnataka has now knocked in the capital Delhi as well and once again Shaheen Bagh has come in the headlines for this. Some girls have come out against the hijab controversy in Karnataka at Shaheen Bagh and are raising slogans. Delhi’s Shaheen Bagh became the center of protests against CAA and NRC in 2019. But once again now protesters have started gathering at Shaheen Bagh and this time they are in support of Hijab.
The protesting women said that they have gathered here in support of the hijab after the controversy over the hijab in Udupi and other areas of Karnataka. He says that wearing hijab is his constitutional and religious right and he is demonstrating in support of it. A girl performing in a conversation with TV9 said, “We are supporting the Hijabi girls of Karnataka. Hijab is our right. We want to give this message from here that we are with them.” Regarding the dress code, the protesting woman said that what is the issue in wearing the hijab. Where did the Hijab controversy begin?
In December 2021, six girl students of Udupi Women’s PU College had claimed that they were allegedly forbidden by the authorities to wear hijab and sit in the class. Regarding this, the girls started protesting at the gate of the college itself. The girl students also contacted the District Commissioner, Education Department officials regarding this matter, but the girls have now filed a petition in the Karnataka High Court seeking relief. At the same time, a single bench of Justice Krishna Dixit of Karnataka High Court has sent the petitions challenging the ban on hijab in colleges before a larger bench.
What does Karnataka Education Minister have to say?
However, in a conversation with TV9 Bharatvarsh, Karnataka Education Minister BV Nagesh told that no new law has been made by the government, only old laws are being followed. He said, “We have not made any new law, it is an old law, according to which it is necessary to wear prescribed uniform. Hijab does not come in prescribed uniform. Those girls who are protesting against wearing hijab in Udupi were themselves coming wearing hijab till December, we have video of it. The court will decide the matter not to tell me anything about the rights given in the constitution. The opposition parties want to incite this matter in view of the UP elections, the opposition is doing politics on this matter, not us.

However, this hijab controversy of Karnataka has now reached many parts of the country. Demonstrations are also being seen in support of Hijab in Maharashtra, West Bengal. Many big leaders of opposition parties have also commented on this. AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi is also in support of the protesting women of Udupi. They say that there is a fight for their constitutional authority on behalf of Muslim women. Right to Choice is now a constitutional right in the Constitution of India.
