In the first phase of elections in UP, 58 percent voting has been done till 5 pm. There are 2.28 crore voters in the first phase of polling, of which 1.24 crore are male, 1.04 crore female and 1448 are transgender voters.

The Samajwadi Party (SP) has complained to the Election Commission about intimidation of poor voters at some polling stations in the Kairana assembly and sending them back. Tagging the Election Commission and the District Magistrate of Shamli, the party tweeted, “By intimidating the voters of poor class at booth numbers 347, 348, 349 and 350 of village Dundukheda of Kairana-8 assembly of Shamli district, withdrawing from the lines. The Election Commission should take immediate cognizance and take action and ensure smooth, fear-free, fair voting.” Additional Chief Electoral Officer Brahmdev Ram Tiwari told about this that the concerned District Magistrate has been asked to look into this matter and take appropriate action. He told that after complaining about technical fault in electronic voting machines at some places, those machines were replaced. According to him, initially there were complaints of disturbances in the voting machines at some places, which were resolved after some time.
