Allahabad High Court: Why Power Corporation is harassing electricity consumers

The Allahabad High Court has summoned the Principal Secretary Power and Energy Lucknow and the Managing Director of Paschimchal Vidyut Vitran Nigam Limited in the matter of sending the bill after disconnection of the connection. The court has said that both the officers should be summoned on February 15 along with the records. This order was given by a division bench of Justice SP Kesarwani and Justice Jayant Banerjee on Puttan’s petition.
The court has asked why the petitioner is being harassed for four years by demanding unfounded huge amount. The court has asked both the officers to file personal affidavits. Along with this, it has been asked to tell why the electricity bills of the consumers of Rampur should not be audited.
Earlier, the court had summoned the Executive Engineer along with the records. But he neither appeared nor did he apply for condonation of attendance. Power Corporation’s counsel presented the paper, which has been placed on record by the court. It was told that the recovery order of Rs 31 lakh, 47 thousand, 773 issued against the petitioner has been revised to 2 lakh 45 thousand 952. On this, the court said that the Executive Engineer has not only done illegal and arbitrary but has also done an unfortunate act. He has deliberately disobeyed the court order.
