Uttarakhand / Champawat : Accident Rescue over, all 14 bodies removed from the ditch, treatment of two seriously injured, PM announces ex-gratia

A major accident happened in Uttarakhand on Monday night. Max met with an accident on the Sukhidhang-Dandaminar road connected to the Tanakpur-Champawat highway. In the rescue operation that lasted till Tuesday afternoon, all 14 bodies have been removed. The accident is said to have happened about three kilometers ahead of Budam. The bodies were badly damaged after the accident. Two critically injured are undergoing treatment. According to the information received so far, all the people aboard the Max vehicle number-UK 04, TA- 4712 were returning home after attending the marriage held in Panchmukhi Dharamshala, Tanakpur. It is being told that at around 3.20 pm last night, Max fell uncontrollably into a deep gorge. Everyone had gone to attend the marriage of Manoj Singh, son of Laxman Singh, a resident of Kakanai. Most of the deceased are said to be relatives of Laxman Singh.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday announced an ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh each to the next of kin of those who lost their lives in an accident in Uttarakhand. 14 people were killed and two others were injured when a vehicle fell into a deep gorge on Sukhidhang-Dandaminar road in Champawat district of Uttarakhand late on Monday night.
The Prime Minister’s Office tweeted, quoting Modi, “The accident in Champawat, Uttarakhand is heart-wrenching. I express my condolences to the families of those who have died in this. The local administration is engaged in relief and rescue work.”

In another tweet, the office said, “Prime Minister Narendra Modi has announced an ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh each from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund to the kin of those who lost their lives in the Uttarakhand accident. The injured will be given Rs 50,000 each.
