Bihar: Muslim man kept begging for mercy with folded hands, alleged cow protectors kept on abusing, murdered and burnt the dead body, then buried

In a heart-wrenching incident in Bihar’s Samastipur district, a Muslim man was not only allegedly lynched by self-proclaimed cow vigilantes but tried to burn his body after the murder and then burnt the half-burnt body with salt. He buried it inside the ground, so that it would rot as soon as possible. A video of the victim Muslim man beating up is also going viral on social media.

Some local media reports also claimed that the assailants allegedly tried to set the man on fire by sprinkling petrol on the man after his death, then sprinkled salt on his body and buried him in the ground.

In the viral video, the man begging for mercy with folded hands in front of the crowd has been identified as Mohammad Khaleel Alam, a worker of Samastipur district of the state’s ruling Janata Dal (United). In the video, Khaleel Alam can be seen pleading with the attackers to spare them with folded hands. Although the attackers are not visible in the video footage, the victim can be heard forcing him to reveal the places where the cow slaughter takes place. The attackers are asking the victim that who are the people involved in selling beef, name them?

In the viral video, the attackers also ask the victim how much beef he has eaten in his life and whether he has fed it to his children as well. They asked him whether the Quran allows him to eat beef, to which he replies that it is not.

This video is full of abusive language and abusive words. The video has been widely viral as yet another incident of hate crime against Muslims. The local police, however, denies the allegations and claims that it is a different tactic to cover up a murder.

On the other hand, Bihar’s Leader of Opposition Tejashwi Yadav, while sharing a clipping of a Hindi newspaper late night, condemned the incident and attacked Chief Minister Nitish Kumar. Tejashwi has written on social media, “The law and order has completely ended in the NDA government of Bihar. In the name of cow, a Muslim youth who was himself a JDU leader was beaten up and burnt alive. Nitish ji, in Bihar continuously. Why are such incidents happening? Why are people taking law into their own hands?”

The body of Mohammad Khaleel Alam was recovered from the banks of the Budhi Gandak river on Friday evening, four days after his family filed a missing report.

According to the local police, the family members of the victim had lodged a report on February 16. For the next few days, he kept getting threatening calls from the victim’s mobile number asking for money. The caller claimed that Khaleel had borrowed Rs 5 lakh from him and would sell or murder Khaleel’s kidney if the family delayed payment.

On February 19, Khaleel’s body was recovered from the bank of the river, where he was buried in the sand. Later, on Tuesday, the local police found a video in which he is being asked about his role in animal smuggling. The police claimed that the video was recorded only to divert attention and give a communal color to the murder.
