Turkey slams NATO, saying – “did not take decisive steps”

On the second day of the war between Russia and Ukraine, Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan has supported Ukraine. Turkey has good relations with both Russia and Ukraine and also has trade relations. But Turkey has said that mere condemnation will not work. NATO has to take decisive steps. Turkish President Erdogan said on Friday that the response of NATO and Western countries to Russia’s attack on Ukraine is not conclusive. At the same time, he expressed hope that a more decisive approach will be adopted by the NATO Summit Alliance to be held on Friday. NATO member Turkey shares its border with Ukraine and Russia in the Black Sea and Turkey has good relations with both countries. Turkey has asked Russia to stop attacking Ukraine and supports Ukraine’s border sovereignty.

Erdogan told reporters, “The EU and all the western mindset does not seem strong on the Ukraine issue. They are constantly advising Ukraine. The advice will do nothing. If you talk about the steps, no steps have been taken yet.” Huh.”

Ukraine had appealed to Turkey to close the Black Sea

On Thursday, Ukraine asked Turkey to close the Bosphorus and Dardanelles straits connecting the Mediterranean Sea and the Black Sea in accordance with a 1936 agreement. But Ankara said on Friday that it cannot stop the Russian warship from entering the Black Sea because the Russian ship has the right to return to its base under the agreement.

Turkey has close ties with Russia on defense and energy, but Turkey has also sold drones to Ukraine and signed an agreement to manufacture drones together. Turkey also opposes Russian policy in Syria and Libya, and Turkey also opposes the annexation of Crimea from Ukraine with Russian support in 2014.

Erdogan had previously vowed to mediate the crisis, but after the attack on Ukraine, Russia said it was “deeply saddened” by Moscow’s attack. This is a “big loss” to regional peace.
