India seeks help from Russia-Ukraine to evacuate Indian students, students will return home by 26 flights
In the press conference of the Ministry of External Affairs on Tuesday regarding the Ukraine-Russia conflict, Foreign Secretary Harsh Vardhan Shringla said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s meeting was held with tribute to the tragic death of Indian student Naveen. The Prime Minister expressed deep grief over this. The Foreign Secretary said that I have spoken to the ambassadors of Ukraine and Russia and asked them to help in getting the Indian students out immediately. We are also looking at the option of evacuating Indians from the Ukraine-Russia border adjacent to Kharkiv. Our officers have reached the respective location.
Foreign Secretary Harsh Vardhan Shringla said that 26 flights will arrive in the next three days. The C17 aircraft will leave for Romania at four in the morning. Also said that the Prime Minister has spoken to the President of France, Poland and the President of the European Union. Foreign Secretary said that when we issued our first advisory, there were about 20,000 Indian students in Ukraine at that time, since then about 12,000 students have left Ukraine. Of the remaining 40 percent of the students, about half are in conflict zones and half have reached or are on the way to Ukraine’s western border.
