There are total 403 assembly seats in Uttar Pradesh. This is also higher than the seats in four other states- Goa, Punjab, Manipur and Uttarakhand combined. The first assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh and Punjab were held in 1952. Punjab was reorganized in 1966. The first assembly elections were held in Goa in 1963, Manipur in 1967 and Uttarakhand in 2002.
Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) supremo Mayawati is the first Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh to complete a full five-year term. There are 70 assembly seats in Uttarakhand. Out of this, a special myth is associated with the Gangotri seat. It is believed that the party whose candidate wins from this seat, the government is formed by that party. It is also interesting that this myth has been made before the formation of Uttarakhand.
