S Sreesanth announces to retire from professional cricket, has won 2 World Cups for India

Sreesanth on Wednesday announced his retirement from all forms of first-class cricket. Sreesanth, who was a member of the 2007 T20 World Cup and 2011 World Cup winning Indian team, announced his retirement from professional cricket on social media. He was recently playing for Kerala in the Ranji Trophy. But he was admitted to the hospital after the injury. Sreesanth was not bought by any team in the IPL 2022 auction this time. The fast bowler has taken 87 and 75 wickets for India in 27 Tests and 53 ODIs respectively. Apart from this, he has seven wickets in his account in 10 T20 International matches.
Giving information about his retirement from professional cricket on social media, Sreesanth wrote, ‘To the next generation of cricketers.. I have decided to bid farewell to my first-class cricket. This decision is my own. Although I know that this will not make me happy. But this is the right time to make a decision in my life. I have enjoyed every moment of it. Apart from Rajasthan Royals in IPL, he has also been a part of Punjab Kings team.

The right-arm fast bowler has not played the IPL after the 2013 spot-fixing scandal. After the ban was lifted, he had also registered himself on this bar for the first time in the IPL auction 2022. But despite having a base price of Rs 50 lakh, no team bought him. After this he posted a motivational video on his Twitter account. Sreesanth was also banned for life in 2013 for match-fixing. But two years later, the special court acquitted him of all charges. In 2019, BCCI Ombudsman DK Jain also reduced his ban to 7 years, which expired in September 2020.

Sreesanth played his first Test match in international cricket against England in Nagpur in March 2006, while the last Test was against England at The Oval in August 2011. Apart from this, he made his ODI debut in October 2005 against Sri Lanka in Nagpur. He played his last ODI against Sri Lanka on 2 April 2011 at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. In this match, India won the World Cup by defeating Sri Lanka. Sreesanth played his first T20 International against South Africa in Johannesburg in December 2006 and last match against Australia in Melbourne in February 2008.
