NOTA affected these 7 seats in UP including 2 seats in Bijnor, these candidates could have won, but lost

Voters in UP opting for ‘none of these’ i.e. NOTA proved to have a big impact on the results of many seats. This effect was most visible in the seats won by a small margin. Read about some such seats where if the voters had not opted for NOTA, then perhaps the election results of the candidates could have changed.

  • Baraut (Baghpat): Krishna Pal Malik of BJP defeated Jaiveer of RLD by 315 votes. Here 579 votes were cast on NOTA. Congress’s Rahul Kumar got 1,849 votes and AAP’s Sudhir got 709 votes.
  • Nahtaur (Bijnor): Om Kumar of BJP won by 258 votes. Defeated Munshi Ram of RLD. 1057 chose NOTA.
  • Chandpur (Bijnor): Swami Omvesh of SP defeated Kamlesh Saini of BJP by 234 votes. 854 votes were cast on NOTA. AIMI got 1,586 votes and AAP got 364.
  • Chhibramau (Kannauj): BJP’s Archana Pandey won by just 1,111 votes more than SP’s Arvind Singh Yadav. Here also 1775 votes were cast in NOTA.
  • Katra (Shahjahanpur): Veer Vikram Singh of BJP defeated Rajesh Yadav of SP by 357 votes. 1091 votes were cast in NOTA.
  • Nakud (Saharanpur): Mukesh Chaudhary of BJP won by 315 votes. Samajwadi Party’s Dharam Singh Saini lost. 710 votes in NOTA.
  • AIMIM got 3593 votes.
  • Ramnagar (Barabanki): Fareed Mahfouz of SP defeated Sharad Awasthi of BJP by 261 votes. Here 1,822 votes have been cast in NOTA.
