Uttarakhand / Haldwani : Father’s ambition to become the Chief Minister, the son got the election defeated!

Choubey ji went to become Chhabe but became Dubey, this saying fits the Congress leader Yashpal Arya. The ambition of becoming the Chief Minister was overshadowed by the future of his son Sanjeev Arya. Arya was a cabinet minister in the government of Pushkar Singh Dhami. Arya himself and his son Sanjeev Arya became MLAs from Bajpur and Nainital assembly seats in 2017 on a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) ticket. This was Sanjeev Arya’s first innings in politics. The BJP government also helped him fully as an MLA.

In the year 2016, Arya joined BJP after getting fed up with Chief Minister and Congress leader Harish Rawat. In the BJP, he also managed to get his son a ticket in the 2017 assembly elections. In the fierce Modi wave, both father and son won the elections with huge votes and the BJP awarded Arya with important ministries like transport and social welfare. Sanjeev Arya then climbed the assembly ladder for the first time by winning by more than 7000 votes.

Despite this, Arya has always been uncomfortable in the BJP. His displeasure kept coming out from time to time. Dhami, who became MLA for the second time from Khatima in the year 2021, was not at all happy when the BJP decided to make him the Chief Minister and his displeasure came to the surface openly before the swearing-in. Dhami himself went to his house to persuade them. He agreed but his heartache did not subside. The Congress party took advantage of this and former Chief Minister Harish Rawat started raising issues with him. As the elections neared, Congress President Sonia Gandhi invited Arya to walk the red carpet, dreaming of the post of Scheduled Chief Minister. This is the reason that Rawat was also seen talking about giving reins to the Chief Minister of Scheduled Castes in the state on many occasions.

Arya’s ambition to become the Chief Minister started taking its toll from here, and he did not even notice and in October last year, not only gave up the BJP, but six months before the election, along with the post of cabinet minister, the MLA son was also resigned. Joined the Congress. The Congress party benefited to some extent by joining the Congress. Some life came to the dying Congress, but instead of personally benefiting Arya, it was a loss. Arya failed to sense the Modi wave.

In the current assembly elections, his son had to face defeat badly from the Nainital seat as a Congress candidate. Sarita Arya, who joined BJP from Congress just before the assembly elections, defeated him by 7918 votes. This is the biggest defeat in the Nainital assembly so far. Then people were very angry with the attitude of the father-son duo to change the party. People decided to teach a lesson to both of them, terming it as debauchery. People took advantage of him in elections but voted in the name of Modi.

This is the reason that not only Sanjeev Arya was defeated, but Yashpal Arya himself was also seen lounging from Bajpur this time. He kept on losing. He was ahead of BJP’s Rajkumar by just 1611 votes. This is the situation when Sanjeev Arya did a good job in Nainital as a BJP MLA and established the image of a good MLA. There is an atmosphere of sorrow instead of happiness in Arya’s camp due to the loss of Sanjeev Arya and the defeat of Congress badly. Political experts are also considering Arya’s decision to change the camp as short-sighted. The common people also believe that the ambition of the Chief Minister drowned in the son of Arya.
