Worst performance in history, Congress was reduced to 2 seats in UP, Congress drowned in UP after 1985!

In the Uttar Pradesh elections, this time the Congress has to be satisfied with only two seats. Congress, which entered the electoral fray under the leadership of Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, has suffered the worst defeat in history in Uttar Pradesh. However, this is not new and the party’s performance has been deteriorating since the last several elections. After the Hathras case, the Unnao rape case, the Lakhimpur violence and the hyperactivity of Priyanka Gandhi Vadra during the Corona period, the party hoped that the performance would improve, but was disappointed.
The Congress has not only reduced the number of seats in the state, but has also seen a big drop in the vote share. In the 2017 assembly elections, the Congress party got 6.25 percent votes. Then the Congress entered the electoral fray in alliance with the Samajwadi Party. This time the party was contesting the election following the policy strategy of Ekla Chalo Re. But neither in terms of seat nor vote share benefited. This time the party was successful in getting only 2.33 percent votes against 6.25 percent votes in 2017.
Congress did not get more than 50 seats after 1985
The condition of the Congress in Uttar Pradesh has not suddenly deteriorated. This trend is being seen from the last several elections. The party which was in power in the state for a long time gradually became the opposition party. Now if we look at the figures, it is known that the party is not even in competition in the UP elections.
The last time the Congress got more than 50 seats was in the 1985 assembly elections. At that time, the Congress formed the government in Uttar Pradesh by winning 269 seats. But since then the party has not been able to cross even the 50 mark. In the 1991 assembly elections, the Congress had to be satisfied with 46 seats, 33 in 1996, 25 in 2002, 22 in 2007, 28 in 2012 and 7 seats in the last election in 2017. This time the party has been reduced to just two seats.
Congress government in the country only in Chhattisgarh and Rajasthan
Such a situation of Congress is not only in Uttar Pradesh. The results of five states came on Thursday and the party could not perform anywhere with respect. In Punjab, the Congress, which was in government for the last 5 years, has suffered a crushing defeat from the Aam Aadmi Party of only a few years old. Congress was able to save only 18 seats out of 117 in the state and Aam Aadmi Party has won 92 seats.
Now only in Chhattisgarh and Rajasthan, there is a Congress government in the country. In Tamil Nadu and Jharkhand, it is in alliance with the ruling party. Everything is not going well in Chhattisgarh and Rajasthan also. Here the party has to overcome factionalism. In Chhattisgarh, there is a faction of TS Singh Deo against Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel, while in Rajasthan, Sachin Pilot has already made a failed attempt to oust CM Ashok Gehlot from power.
