Delhi Police arrested Paytm founder Vijay Shankar Sharma on February 22 for rash driving. However, he was later granted bail. At that time the driver of DCP had gone to fill petrol on Deepak Aurobindo Marg. After hitting him, Sharma fled in his car.
Later, Deepak noted down the number of the car and told the whole thing to the DCP. At the behest of the DCP, Deepak lodged a case under IPC 279 at Malviya Nagar police station. The number of the car turned out to be of a company in Gurugram. After that Vijay Shekhar Sharma was arrested after being called to the police station. Then he was granted bail because it was a bailable section.
Delhi Police spokesperson Suman Nalwa confirmed that the police had arrested Vijay Shekhar Sharma for speeding or reckless driving and later released him on bail. At the same time, a Paytm spokesperson said that “a complaint was registered in relation to an alleged road incident. There was no damage to any person or property in the said incident. He said that the media exaggerated the matter.” Whereas in this case a minor road accident complaint was registered, which had a provision of up to bail and necessary legal formalities were completed on the same day.
