Earlier on Sunday, due to large-scale violence, the authorities had imposed curfew in three police station areas of the city and Section 144 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC) (prohibition of assembly of four or more people) in the entire city. Meanwhile, the district’s in-charge minister and state agriculture minister Kamal Patel said in a tweet that he has instructed the officials to take strict action against the rioters.
Divisional Commissioner Pawan Sharma has reached Khargone to take stock of the situation. Khargone Additional District Magistrate Sumer Singh Mujalde said on Sunday that some miscreants pelted stones at the people involved in the procession as soon as the Ram Navami procession was taken out at Talab Chowk located at the district headquarters. Due to this, the police used tear gas shells to control the situation. The District Magistrate said that the procession was to make a round of Khargone city, but in view of the violence, it was called off half way.
A similar incident of stone pelting came to light during a Ram Navami procession in Sendhwa town of Barwani district in which a police station in-charge and five others were injured. According to officials, the situation was brought under control later.
Barwani district superintendent of police Deepak Shukla told reporters that Sendhwa police station in-charge Baldev Singh Mujalde and five others were injured during stone pelting on Ram Navami procession on Jogwara road on Sunday. The police immediately controlled the situation. He said the procession continued after the incident and concluded peacefully.
Responding to a question, he said that the rioters tried to set a few vehicles on fire, but firefighters reached on time and brought the situation under control. He said that the people involved in the incident are being identified and further action will be taken on this basis.
West Bengal
In West Bengal too, there is news of clashes during Ram Navami procession in Shibpur area of Howrah on Sunday. Police said that they have taken necessary steps to maintain peace and order in the area and the situation is under control.
According to Times Now, the opposition Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) claims that the procession was attacked by the police. Responding to the police, the people have been asked to remain calm and not to spread fake news.
Jharkhand
At the same time, dozens of people were injured in stone pelting and attack on people involved in the procession with sharp weapons on the procession of Ram Navami near Hirahi Bhokta Garden area of Lohardaga district of Jharkhand, causing tension in the entire district. In view of the situation, a large number of security forces have been deployed in the area.
Eyewitnesses told that Ram Navami procession was coming from Kujara’s side in Lohardaga, when some people of other community near the graveyard asked not to raise slogans. But, by the time one could understand something, some people involved in the procession started pelting stones, in which many people were injured. After stone pelting, miscreants set fire to two houses and handcarts in the fair, a sweet shop, a pick-up vehicle and 10 bikes.
On getting information about the incident, a large number of district administration and police officials including Deputy Commissioner Dr Waghmare Prasad Krishna reached the spot and tried to control the situation. After the incident, the police administration is stationed in Bhokta Garden. Efforts are being made by the police administration to pacify both the parties. In this regard, Deputy Commissioner Dr. Waghmare Prasad Krishna told that he is still on the spot and the administration is keeping an eye on the whole incident. At present the situation is under control.
The Deputy Commissioner said that action would be taken against those involved in the incident. Those injured in the incident said that along with stone pelting by some anti-social elements, sticks and sharp weapons were also attacked. Due to this incident, huge communal tension has spread in the entire Lohardaga. Former Jharkhand Chief Minister Raghuvar Das has strongly condemned the incident and alleged that such incidents are happening again and again in the state due to minority appeasement by the Hemant Soren government. He said that Ram Navami procession was attacked in Lohardaga last year also. He has demanded the government to immediately arrest the criminals and take strict action against them.
On the other hand, State BJP President and Rajya Sabha MP Deepak Prakash reached Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences, Ranchi from Lohardaga late in the night and talked to the injured.
He has demanded the immediate arrest of the culprits from the administration.
