Uttar Pradesh : Police remand of accused Murtaza extended by 5 days, no lawyer came to plead

Police remand of IIT engineer Ahmed Murtaza Abbasi, accused of attacking policemen outside Gorakhnath temple in Uttar Pradesh’s Gorakhpur, has been extended for five days. UP ATS had applied for extension of his remand in the court. Now he will remain in the custody of UP ATS till April 16.

Earlier today he was presented in the ACJM court of Gorakhpur. The UP ATS, which is probing the case, presented airguns, laptops and many other things as evidence in the court. Earlier, the police had brought him from Lucknow to Gorakhpur under tight security. No lawyer appeared on behalf of Mortaza in the court.

Let us inform that on April 3, Murtaza tried to forcibly enter the Gorakhnath temple and when the PAC personnel stationed there tried to stop him, he attacked him with a sharp weapon. Two policemen were injured in this incident. Later he was caught. It is noteworthy that the Gorakhnath temple is the highest bench of the Nath sect and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath is the Mahant of this Peeth.

Murtaza hails from Gorakhpur and is a pass out from the prestigious IIT (Indian Institute of Technology) – Bombay. He graduated from IIT Bombay in 2015.
