Telangana : ABVP allegedly built Ram temple in Hyderabad University on Ram Navami

A Ram temple was allegedly constructed inside a stone structure on the Hyderabad University campus on the day of Ram Navami (April 10), causing concern among the students.

According to The News Minute, the temple structure was allegedly installed by the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), the student wing of the RSS. Images of Rama and Hanuman were erected with saffron flags in rock formations inside the complex and rituals were reportedly performed.

Other student groups are seeing this as another attempt to saffronise the campus and focus on Hindu religious practices and beliefs.

Students’ union general secretary and Ambedkar Students’ Union (ASA) convener Gopi Swamy told The News Minute that right-wing groups, especially the ABVP, have made several such attempts in the recent past.

He said, “In this specific incident, celebrating Ram Navami, they have converted a stone structure into a Ram temple. They are influencing the newly admitted students with their communal bigotry.

When the university administration was asked whether permission was given for the construction of religious structures on the campus, University spokesperson Professor Kanchan Malik said, “It is learned that temporary photographs and other arrangements were made on the occasion of Ram Navami.” were. The university authorities have asked the concerned students to remove them.

The ABVP had also organized a puja on Ram Navami at Gurbaksh Singh Maidan in the campus. According to some students, the Vice Chancellor of the university BJ Rao had also attended the puja.

However, let us tell you that the University of Hyderabad is not the only university where the activities of ABVP on Ram Navami have created controversy. Members of a right-wing group at Delhi’s Jawaharlal Nehru University allegedly tried to stop non-vegetarian food from being served at the mess that day. This was followed by violence and several students were injured.

Left groups on the campus have accused the ABVP of disturbing peace in JNU with the aim of saffronising the university.
