In fact, an RTI was filed by RTI activist Nadeemuddin, in response to which the Uttarakhand Legislative Assembly Secretariat has provided this information. According to the RTI activist, he had sought year-wise information from the Public Information Officer of the Uttarakhand Legislative Assembly about the salary and allowances paid to the MLAs of Uttarakhand. In response to this, Hem Chandra Pant, Public Information Officer, Vidhan Sabha Secretariat, Uttarakhand informed that Rs 96.42 crore has been spent on the salary and allowances of MLAs in the state.
72 thousand crore debt on the state
This situation is when Uttarakhand has a debt of about 72 thousand crores and if this condition continues, then in the next 3 years this debt will reach close to Rs 1 lakh crores. The total revenue of the state government, that is, 50 percent of the total budget is spent on salary and pension, and the MLA says that it is the discretion of the CM whether he reduces the expenses of the MLAs or not.
