18 year old table tennis player Vishwa dies in road accident, was going to play  tournament in Shillong - Edules

Young table tennis player Vishwa Deendayalan died in a road accident on Sunday. He was on his way from Guwahati to Shillong to participate in the 83rd Senior National and Inter-State Table Tennis Championships. Three others, Ramesh Santosh Kumar, Avinash Prasannaji Srinivasan and Kishore Kumar, who were traveling in the taxi along with 18-year-old Vishwa, suffered serious injuries. According to doctors, the condition of all three is stable and they are out of danger.

Union Law Minister Kiren Rijiju has condoled the death of Vishwa. Rijiju tweeted, “Very sad to learn that Deendayalan Vishwas, a young table tennis player from Tamil Nadu, died in an accident at Ri-Bhoi, Meghalaya. He was on his way to Shillong to participate in the 83rd Senior National Table Tennis Championship. My deepest condolences to his family.

The Table Tennis Federation of India (TTFI) has confirmed the accident. A TTFI release said, “A 12-wheeler trailer coming from the opposite direction collided with the taxi while crossing the road divider near Umli check post and fell into the gorge. The taxi driver died on the spot, while Vishwa was declared brought dead by the North Eastern Indira Gandhi Regional Institute of Health and Medical Sciences.

Deendayalan was a talented player and won many ranking level titles. He was to represent India at the WTT Youth Championships in Linz, Austria from 27 April.
