Gujarat: Communal tension after road accident in Vadodara, 19 people arrested

A minor road accident in Gujarat’s Vadodara city sparked communal tension as rioters pelted stones at each other and damaged a place of worship and vehicles. The police gave this information on Monday.

Since the incident which took place late on Sunday night, the police have arrested 19 people so far for rioting. A clash broke out between people of two communities after a minor two-wheeler accident in the city’s Raopura area, an official of Vadodara’s Karelibagh police station said.

Three people have received minor injuries. City Police Commissioner Shamsher Singh said, “The incident happened due to a road accident and two groups clashed. Three people have received minor injuries. Now the situation is normal. We are registering a police complaint.

According to the police officer, after this the matter escalated so much that people of two communities gathered in Karelibagh area adjoining Raopura area and started pelting stones at each other.

The mob vandalized a roadside temple idol, two autorickshaws and two two-wheelers, the police official said.
