Parents of MBBS students who returned from Ukraine gathered at Jantar Mantar in the national capital on Sunday and demanded the government’s intervention to accommodate their children in medical colleges. Vivek Chandel, son of Dr Rajesh Kumar Chandel of Himachal Pradesh, was also studying medicine in Kharkiv, Ukraine. His son was in the fifth year of MBBS at Kharkiv University. Rajesh says we are not protesting, we are requesting the government to accommodate our children in colleges. The parents of all the children have come to Delhi with this demand.

He said that we have met our Chief Minister, Union Minister Anurag Thakur and others. Apart from him, we have also met BJP National President JP Nadda at his residence. He assured us that soon this problem will be resolved. Regarding coming to Delhi, he said that we have come here to show how many students are affected. We want to raise our voice collectively because it is about the future of our children.

RB Gupta, president of Ukraine Medical Students Parents Association, says that my child is a second year student who was studying in Ivano. We are only requesting the government that the way they saved the children, in the same way the government should secure the future of our children. He informed that at present, people from 10 states including Haryana, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Delhi, Bihar, Rajasthan, Gujarat, Tamil Nadu and Odisha have come to Jantar Mantar. Gupta said, “So far we have spoken to Union Health Minister Mansukh Madaviya. We have also met former Health Minister Harsh Vardhan and several Lok Sabha MPs.

Aditya Bharadwaj, a fourth year student in Kharkiv, Ukraine, said that we are requesting the government. He has already helped us a lot by bringing us back home. But we are in dilemma about our future. Our classes which are running online are also not running properly. Teachers are taking classes even in war zone conditions. We request the Government of India to accommodate us in Indian colleges so that we can do our studies here.
