Troubled by harassment of Uttarakhand UPCL officers, contract worker ate poison, released video and named 08 people
Basant Kaushik, a former contractual employee of Uttarakhand Power Corporation Limited (UPCL), has consumed poison after being upset over the lack of action on harassment. His condition has become critical after consuming poison and he is swinging between life and death in the hospital. A video of him accusing eight officials of the corporation, including a chief engineer, of harassment, before threatening suicide, had gone viral on WhatsApp. After which the hands and feet of the accused officers swelled. Even after a lot of searching news, he was nowhere to be found. But on Thursday evening, information was received that Basant had consumed poison and was admitted to Indresh Hospital. The officials of the Energy Corporation heaved a sigh of relief as soon as the news of his hospitalization was received. But till the time he is not fully recovered, there is little hope of peace for the officials. God forbid that if any incident happens in the meantime, then the accused officers may have to face big troubles. There has been a stir in UPCL after this incident. How true and how many false allegations are, it may be a matter of investigation, but being forced to take suicidal steps like committing suicide also raises questions on the poor government system somewhere.

Basant Kaushik, who was appointed as a lineman through a sub-station in Niranjanpur sub-station of Energy Corporation, had accused eight officers, including a chief engineer, of being harassed and indulging in corruption. After which the said employee was fired some time ago. He was in trouble after being fired from his job. On Wednesday, the said employee made a video and sent it to many people through WhatsApp.
In the video, he has accused Chief Engineer AK Singh (retired), his wife Anupama Singh of harassing her. Apart from this, the names of Superintending Engineer Ravi Rajora, Executive Engineer Anil Mishra, SDO Anuj Agarwal, VK Joshi, JE Surya Prakash Pokhriyal and Mustakim Ali have also been named in the video. Basant says that all the above officers harassed him mentally. He has also accused SDO Anuj Agarwal of extorting Rs 6.50 lakh in the name of bribe. In the video, Basant has spoken of committing suicide after being disturbed by the harassment of the said officers. Along with this, strict action has also been demanded against all the officials.
After the suicide video went viral on social media, an attempt was made to contact Basant Kaushik, his number was constantly being switched off and he was not found even at home. After which the corporation officials had lost their sleep. Apart from the police, the corporation officers-employees also got involved in the search news of Basant. But till Thursday morning, no trace of him was found anywhere, due to which the trouble of the corporation officials increased. Here, on Thursday evening, Patelnagar police told that Basant has been brought to Mahant Indiresh Hospital in an unconscious state. Where doctors told that Basant has consumed poison and his condition remains critical.
