Uttarakhand / Kashipur : Facilities missing from multipurpose hall built at a cost of six crores

In order to provide better facilities to the sports talent, the multipurpose hall built at a cost of 690.27 lakhs under the Sports Infrastructure Facility Scheme has remained a victim of neglect of the Sports Department. The basic facilities for the players are missing in this hall built at a cost of crores but no one is going to see it.

A multipurpose hall was built under the Sports Infrastructure Facility Scheme at the Sports Stadium on Ramnagar Road with the tireless efforts of former MP KC Singh Baba. Its foundation stone was laid on 28 February 2014 by Jitendra Singh, then Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India, then Chief Minister Harish Rawat and Sports Minister Dinesh Agarwal. Later this hall was inaugurated by the then CM Trivendra Singh Rawat and Sports Minister Arvind Pandey, MLA Harbhajan Singh Cheema on 9 March 2019.

It was constructed by Uttar Pradesh Rajkiya Nirman Nigam Limited Haldwani. Built at a cost of crores, this hall was built for the purpose of playing indoor sports like Boxing, Badminton, Table Tennis, Basketball, Judo-Karate, Taekwondo, Wrestling, Gymnastics etc. Despite this, there is no arrangement of lighting in the hall, no fan and adjust fan, no seating arrangement for players and spectators. Not only this, the wooden floor is breaking from place to place. Electrical fittings are hanging from the walls. Players say that it is suffocating to practice inside this hall as there is no better ventilation system.

For what purpose the hall was inaugurated three years ago, I do not understand till today. Six crores have been spent to say, but what facilities are being given to the players, I do not know. The hall leaks in the rain, the floor is cracking, there is no maintenance in the hall.
Vijender Choudhary, Chairman, Uttarakhand Athletics Selection Committee

When the foundation stone of this hall was laid, it was expected that the players of the area would get better facilities. The players of the region are not getting any facilities in this hall. It has become a white elephant stuff.
Rajeev Choudhary, Secretary, Uttarakhand Weightlifting

The name of the multipurpose hall was kept, but what facilities are there in it, it will be seen on the spot. There are no fans for the players. There is no seating arrangement anywhere in such a big hall. There is no arrangement for lighting.
Puran Pandey, Boxing Coach

All the sports talents from the region keep illuminating the name of the state and the country. Everyone knows what facilities they are getting in the name of sports. Multipurpose hall was also built but this is only in name. Everyone knows what the problems are.
