He should play with some responsibility, such game does not suit him: Sehwag

Former India batsman Virender Sehwag has sent a message to Delhi Capitals captain Rishabh Pant to bat responsibly and score runs in IPL 2022. According to Sehwag, so far Pant has been batting too slow or getting out while trying to play freely too soon. Pant has scored 234 runs in nine matches at a strike rate of 149.04. He scored 44 off 30 in the franchise’s previous match against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG). However, still the Delhi team lost the match by 6 runs.

Sehwag said that Pant has failed to strike the right balance in his game. Speaking on Cricbuzz ahead of Delhi’s match against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) on Thursday (May 5), he said, “Yes, Pant should play with some responsibility. But when he plays like this the strike rate drops. On the other hand, when he is playing freely, he gets out. He needs to find the right balance, which he is capable of. Will have to play openly while batting till the end. Pant to old Pant Should play like that. Making 40 runs in 40 balls doesn’t suit Pant and is not good for the team either.”

According to Sehwag, not only Delhi’s batting, but their bowling is also an issue. He said that regular bowlers like Shardul Thakur and Axar Patel are not fulfilling their quota of four overs in every game. Left-arm spinner Kuldeep Yadav is the highest wicket-taker for DC in IPL 2022. He has taken 17 wickets in nine matches at an average of 15.82. Khaleel Ahmed is second on the list with 11 wickets from six matches.

Regarding Delhi’s bowling, Sehwag said, “Delhi’s bowling is not giving impact. Shardul and Axar are not able to bowl their four overs. Is this the right combination? Enrique Nortje is not fit. Earlier, they had Nortje and Nortje. Kagiso Rabada was working. He needs to get his combination right. Don’t think everything is working right now.” Let us tell you that Delhi are currently in seventh place with eight points from nine matches.
