Supreme Court gets two new judges, after 5 years the appointment of a judge of minority community

Supreme Court has got two new judges. Within 48 hours of the recommendation of the names, the Center has issued the notification of appointment. Gauhati High Court Chief Justice Sudhanshu Dhulia and Gujarat High Court Judge Jamshed B Pardiwala have been appointed as Supreme Court judges. The President has stamped their names. Let us inform that on May 5, the Supreme Court Collegium had sent the recommendation of two new judges to the Central Government. The SC collegium headed by CJI NV Ramana took a decision on the recommendation to appoint Sudhanshu Dhulia and Jamshed B Pardiwala as Supreme Court judges.
Let us tell you that there is information that Justice Pardiwala will become the Chief Justice of India i.e. CJI. He can become the CJI of the country in May 2028. His tenure will be about 2 years 3 months. He is the fourth Parsi judge in the Supreme Court. His appointment means that after a gap of 5 years, a judge from the minority community has been appointed. Earlier, Judge S Abdul Nazeer was appointed to the Supreme Court in February 2017.
At the same time, Justice Dhulia will be the second judge to be elevated from the Uttarakhand HC. The five-judge collegium headed by CJI Justice NV Ramana has unanimously recommended a record number of 11 names since August last year. Of them, 9 including 3 women were sworn in as Supreme Court judges by CJI NV Ramana on 31 August 2021.
The same collegium comprising CJI Ramana, Justice U U Lalit, Justice AM Khanwilkar, Justice DY Chandrachud and Justice L Nageswara Rao also recommended the appointment of 10 new Chief Justices in various high courts. The three-judge collegium has so far recommended 180 names for appointment as judges of various HCs.
