59 percent children in Uttarakhand are not getting mother’s love ‘Mamata’, shocking revelations in National Family Health Survey

The superstition spread in the society is removing the newborn children from the mother’s motherhood. This not only takes time to develop the emotional bond between the mother and the child, but is also putting the child’s life in danger. Mother’s milk is a boon for the child. In that too, the first hour’s milk is considered the most important.
But, 59 percent of children in Uttarakhand are unable to drink mother’s milk in the first one hour after birth. The main reason for this is superstition. According to the report of the National Family Health Survey, only 41 per cent babies are getting breast milk in the first hour of birth across the state.
Antibodies made from colostrum: The first milk of the mother is called colostrum. It is a treasure trove of carbohydrates, proteins, anti bodies. Being low in fat, it is nutritious as well as easy to digest. It is also necessary for the first stool of the baby. Along with this, it is also necessary for the mother’s breastmilk production. According to a report by UNICEF, the risk of death in babies who do not drink breast milk in the first one hour increases by 33 percent.
Lack of Bounding Between Mother and Child: Senior Pediatrician Dr. DS Rawat explains that the first touch of the mother to the child after birth creates a feeling of affection and affection in the mother’s mind towards the child. This leads to the development of bounding between the two as milk production begins on its own.
The condition of plain districts is worse
The situation is worse in the plain districts of Uttarakhand, especially Haridwar and USnagar. Therefore, children in these areas are more malnourished. Dr. Saroj Naithani, director of the National Health Mission, says that this tradition is relatively not in the mountainous areas. But, even today, in the plains, there is a superstition among a large number of people that after birth, the first aunt will give milk to the child.
Or else he will get honey first. He said that efforts are being made to create awareness in the society. But, it is not possible only for the health department, every section of the society has to contribute.
