Ukraine’s President Zelensky surrenders, says – Russia should withdraw troops, ready for talks
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has said that his country is ready to resume war talks with Russia. Speaking to media persons, Xinhua quoted Zelensky as saying that Russia should withdraw its troops from Ukraine and put an end to the war. At the same time, we are ready to talk again with them.
Why did Zelensky mention February 23?
Referring to the day before the start of the war, he said that the situation on 23 February should be discussed again to prevent war between Russia and Ukraine. I was elected by the people of Ukraine as the President of Ukraine, and not as some sort of mini-Ukraine President. According to the BBC report, the context of the situation on 23 February suggests that Ukraine cannot insist on annexing Crimea before making peace with Russia.
The peninsula was occupied by Russia 8 years ago. Calling for the resumption of diplomatic talks between Russia and Ukraine, the President said that they have destroyed all our bridges. Ukrainian and Russian delegations held their latest round of peace talks in person in Istanbul, Turkey, in late March.
Funds were demanded to continue the war
Earlier, Zelensky had started the Global Fund Racing Platform to keep the war going. Along with this, he also appealed to the people that this war can be stopped only by being united. Everyone has to help if Russia is to recover from its ruin and Ukraine will always remember their help. Earlier, Zelensky had refused to surrender and promised to respond with full force to Russian attacks.
