Winning the election is the first and last option
Winning the election is the first and last option to remain the Chief Minister for five years in front of Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami. At the same time, there will be pressure on him to challenge the challenge of breaking the record of difference of votes of the Chief Ministers who have won the by-elections so far. The history of by-elections for Chief Ministers in Uttarakhand has been one of victory. Vijay Bahuguna holds the record of winning the by-election with the highest margin of votes. In 2002, the then Chief Minister ND Tiwari won the election from Ramnagar Vis. He defeated Ram Singh of BJP by a margin of 9693 votes.
BC Khanduri contested from Dhumkot by-election
When the BJP government was formed in 2007, General BC Khanduri contested the by-election from Dhumkot. He defeated Surendra Singh Negi of INC from Khanduri by a margin of 14171 votes. In 2012, the then Chief Minister of Congress government, Vijay Bahuguna contested the by-election from Sintarganj Vis seat. The BJP fielded Prakash Pant against him. Bahuguna won this election by a margin of 40154 votes. In 2014, the then Chief Minister Harish Rawat contested the by-election from Dharchula. The BJP fielded his rival Bhanu Dutt. Rawat won the election by a margin of 20600 votes.
